Hand Flamed Artist beads

Wow has time really gone that fast... It has been a wonderful year. I just gave EGS a few dates for classes in 2010 and I'm looking for a studio to teach at in California. I also am writing another article for Glassline, it is a fabulous trade magizine for glass blowers and lampworkers. My high lights this past year were to watch Pinot create amazing glass at the Eugene Glass School, a class with Cornia and another class with Melanie both have very different styles. My last class I taught this year was a blast, several talented artists who share a passion for glass. The torches were full and the spirts were fun. Well my New Years pledge is to blog at least every other week. Hope to hear from you too! Cheers.

Have it on hand. If you take the time to prep your bench you will have so much more fun and be twice as creative. I have a few photos of my bench on my blog. When I am ready to work I start by cleaning up my space. Next I select a color pallet to work with and make sure that I pull enough color (rods) to work with for what I am thinking of. By the photos of my bench you can see that I have tons of choices at hand just in case I want to venture off my plan. I keep stringers on hand, I have core stringers on a tray in a rainbow assortment. I have transparent stringers in a small jar and solid color strings in another jar. I have store bought stringers, Intense Black, White, Clear and a few others from an assortment pack, well I keep them in a larger jar at the stand on my right. That stand also has a variety of frit, aventurine rocks, dicro and milly's. oh also some fine silver and silver leaf. You can see that I have stacked a couple of trays up to hold a few levels of tools. My point is set your self up for success and you will have a ton of fun and enjoy what you make. For my B.C. focal I set out lots of twisty canes stringers and milly's after looking at the bead I think that I will play with stringers and twistys on Friday so that I can do it again, I'm thinking cave man sets and focals will be a lot of fun to make.

Beat the burn. You know that tiny little chip of hot glass that pops off and lands on you arm... Dang it I hate that, they burn so darn fast. Well I showed one burn mark on my arm to my hubby and he went and got one of his sport socks and told me to cut the toes out. Volia works great as a sleeve and they are all cotton!!

So here is my best tip. When you take a glass bead class take the beads that you make and string them together in one group. hang that at your torch bench. This will give you many hours of inspiration. If you have taken several classes hang the style that you are working with at the bench and put the extras aside until  you want to work with that style. This is a really good way to review your notes. If you are really at a block then re make each one. The block will melt away and you will end up with several ways to change the concepts to your very own. Enjoy!

Happy Valentines day! It is one of my favorite days. I will be playing in the studio this afternoon. Hubby is not feeling well so it will most likely be just dinner and a movie at home. So I will be posting new items tonight.
I also need to call the glass school to see if the class with Cornia is a go. I can't wait. Cornia is a hero to me as it was early on in my bead making that I took one of my first classes with her. She is truly AMAZING!! I will keep you posted.

What a great day I had on the torch. I played with my moon beads in a ball shape. I thing they look reallly well. You will have to check them out later tonight on my ETSY site or in a couple of weeks at the Rouge Gallery. As for now the little Yorkie is sitting on the back of my shoulders on the top of my computer chair in the sun.. Yep the sun. Come on spring!!

I had the most wonderful day today. I spent it at the glass school watching the "Master, Pino Signortto" from Italy. He was here in Eugene to teach, big
glass like big vessels and sculptures. He offered a demo today in honor of the glass schools 10th anniversary. His work is beautiful. Today he created a swimmer entangled in the tentacles of an octopus. It was very interesting to see how smoothly he works the glass and how it all worked out. I did
also have a chance to speak to him and shake his hand.
What a great day to have that honor.

Very fun, Scott and I went to Vegas and had a blast. We saw a few shows and had a great time. I have to admit that Scott won more in the end but I played so many more games. It was nice to come home only to leave again to go on a week end for my Mothers 70th birthday. All of my Aunts came and lots of cusins it was so much fun. I think Mom had a great time. Nothing is as nice as gathering with family.

It has been a very busy Fall. I have fallen in love with the Troll or Pandora style braclets so I have a nice selection of big hole beads on my Esty site. You can collect them as charms for your bracelet I will also take suggestions on the styles you would like to see. Hope you enjoy the rest of your fall.
